A section of Kinango farmers have continued to reap big by harvesting cow peas and green grams in the area that has seen drought affecting locals.

This was after Kenya Red Cross Society funded by Bristish Red Cross  supported 1500 farmers from Kinango , LungaLunga and Matuga Sub County with drought tolerant seeds.

Some farmers have already started harvesting , and they are appreciating Kenya Red Cross for supporting them with the seeds.

“Maize did not do well due to lack of rain but we appreciate Kenya Red Cross, because cow peas and green grams seeds they gave us are proving to be the best,” said Mbithe Kalami.

She said that yields are good adding that it will help the residents to feed their families amid drought in the area.

Mbithe who is among other Gozani farmers said that the drought resistance crops are the best in the area instead of maize.

Kenya Red Cross Society coordinator in Kwale Mohamed Henzi  said that through Bristish Red Cross they have supported 1500 farmers from Kinango , Lunga Lunga and Matuga Sub County with drought tolerant seeds.

“Each farmer was issued with 2kgs Cow peas , 2kgs green grams and 0.5 kgs sorghum. The farmers were supported with the seeds last year November 2022 during the short rain session,” said Mohamed.
