Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga has dismissed rumours questioning the legitimacy of the Nyota Program, assuring beneficiaries that the initiative is genuine and fully backed by the government.

Speaking on Friday during the program’s verification exercise at the Kwale Cultural Centre in Matuga Sub-county, Chidzuga said all successful applicants will receive funding to boost or establish their businesses.

“This project is not a scam as claimed by some people. Those who have successfully qualified will receive funds to set up their businesses,” she affirmed.

Chidzuga reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering young people through various initiatives aimed at fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

She added that the Kenya Kwanza administration remains focused on creating sustainable opportunities for youth through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Chidzuga urged the youth to take full advantage of the program and adopt a mindset of enterprise rather than waiting for formal employment.

“Not everyone can be employed in government offices. The Nyota Program is designed to help you create your own jobs and uplift your communities,” she said.

Chidzuga assured young people that those who will miss out on the Nyota Program funding will still benefit from other government initiatives.

She further revealed that plans are underway to launch a special empowerment project targeting single and young mothers, urging them to remain hopeful.

On his part, Innovation Principal Secretary Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat challenged the youth to take advantage of the empowerment programs rolled out by the government.

“Every project brought by the government should be taken seriously. The President is ready to support all young people who are willing to work. If anyone has completed school or holds a certificate, they should use this opportunity wisely,” he said.

Prof. Shaukat noted that the program has attracted participants from all wards across the county, adding that the large turnout reflects the high demand for youth empowerment opportunities.

Kwale County Youth Director Kent Simiyu said at least 9,279 youth had applied for the Nyota Program.

He encouraged young people not to give up, but to continue registering and participating in various government initiatives aimed at improving their livelihoods.

“The government has many programs designed to empower the youth. I urge you to keep trying because every opportunity counts,” Simiyu sa
