A family in Kwale has called on president William Ruto to intervene and help their girl to join Mvindeni secondary school in Diani-Kwale after failing to take her to Kisumu Girls high school.

The special needs family is unable to raise school fees amounting to over 22,000 shillings, uniforms and other items required for their 16 years old Rose Kerubo to join Mvindeni secondary school according to his father Thomas Nyakundi who is blind.

Thomas and his daughter Rose have been moving from one street to another in Diani looking for a well-wisher to help them in vain.

“We have been trying to look for someone to help us because we are unable to raise even a shilling to facilitate our daughter’s education. My blind condition and lack of a job is a big problem for us,” he said.

Thomas said that their effort to seek Msambweni NG-CDF support hit a snag as they were told funds are not ready while securing county bursary one is required to get school admission number from the school admitted.

“I have an 18 years old son Fred Nyamwanga who requires chest operation to fill a disturbing food hole that is set to cost over 200,000 but we have been unable to raise the money and that is also why we can’t take our daughter to school,” he added.

Thomas called on all well-wishers to step in and assist so that their daughter can go and study like other students across the country.

Kerubo’s mother said that the situation is being worsened by the fact that her daughters’ friend has joined schools.

The 16 years old Rose Kerubo shed tears at their Malalani rented home -Msambweni after missing out to join grade 10 school.

“She is very disappointed and feels bad when her colleagues ask her why she is not going to school. Unfortunately she knows the situation that our family is in and therefore she is giving up. I plead with anyone out who can help to do so for her,” she appealed.

Kerubo who got 34 points and is set to join Kisumu girls high school said she has hopes of becoming a medical practitioner so that she can help disabled families.

“I am pleading with president William Ruto to take up my matter because I know he can so that I can go study and come back to help my community, especially those living with special abilities,” she said.

She said that her family is not able even to afford a school uniform for her due to poverty level, her fathers’ and brothers’ disability status.

‘My father is blind he cannot do anything and mother is the one who helps him, I have a disabled brother who is bedridden and requires over 200,000 for an operation which we can’t afford and therefore the burden is too big for my family. Please help us, “she pleaded.

Despite president William instructing all parents to take their children to school without failure many pupils are still at home due to lack of school fees.
