The national government has sounded a warning to contractors doing projects that they have no option but to deliver within the agreed time in order for citizens to benefit from the projects.

Some of the projects include the affordable houses that president William Ruto administration is keen to ensure locals benefit during his first term of leadership.

Deputy head of public service in Kenya Amos Gathecha took issue with Diani Whitehouse affordable houses project construction delay by SIHAAM limited saying that the ministry of housing should relook at the contract and correct the problem.

The work that is expected to be completed by June 2026 is sadi yo he behind schedule due to huge work the contractor is handling in other counties to put up affordable houses projects.

He made the remarks after inspecting several national government projects including Makamini and Mwache dams in Kinango, regional center of blue economy, Matuga affordable houses, Kwale-Kinango road tarmacking, and Kwale stadium in Matuga as well as Diani market and Diani white house affordable houses projects in Msambweni.

‘Generally we have inspected several projects which are progressing well especially the Mwache dam where new structures of a school affected by the project have already been put in place. Construction work for the dam is progressing very well,” he said.

At Makamini dam that had stalled for sometime  the contractor will be starting to construct the dam after land owners are compensated from next week.

He said that the government is keen to ensure during the election year in 2027 where a lot of disruptions occur, all projects are completed to avoid stalling.

On his part Kwale deputy governor Chirema Kombo said that they will continue to collaborate with the national government in ensuring service delivery to citizens through such critical projects that touch the common mwananchi lives.

“Your visit today assures us that these projects are going to be completed because they mean a lot to our people on matters of service delivery. We are pleased and assure you that we will do our best to complement the effort of the national government,” he added.

Coast regional commissioner Rhoda Onyacha urged youth to take advantage of the projects and get employment saying that in Kwale contractors have been forced to source for laborers outside after locals failed to appear for work.

“You know we had to source for youth from Likoni to come and work in Kwale because nobody is interested to work and that is the reason some of the work is delayed. We must tell our youth to take advantage of the projects and get jobs,” she said.
