Ibrahim Mwabaha, a young activist from Vanga Ward in Kwale County, has dared to dream big and remains steadfast in his belief that persistence, commitment and visionary leadership can bring meaningful change to society.
Born and raised in Mwalago village, Vanga Ward, Mwabaha said his passion for leadership developed at an early age.
Growing up in a region rich in natural resources yet faced with persistent development challenges inspired him to pursue community service and advocate for change.

For years, he has been actively involved in community advocacy, youth empowerment initiatives, and social development programs aimed at improving livelihoods in Vanga and the wider Lunga Lunga constituency.
Through his grassroots engagements, he has gained firsthand insight into the challenges affecting local residents.
According to Mwabaha, Vanga’s strategic location along the Kenya-Tanzania border presents significant opportunities in fishing, tourism, trade, and the blue economy.
However, he believes the area has not fully benefited from these resources due to inadequate leadership and representation.
“Vanga has enormous potential. We have hardworking people, a strategic location, and natural resources that can transform lives if properly utilized. What we need is leadership that prioritizes the interests of the people,” he said.
Mwabaha identified youth unemployment, poor infrastructure, inadequate social amenities, and limited economic opportunities as some of the key challenges facing the ward.
He said the challenges can be addressed through proper planning, accountability, and inclusive governance.
Having spent years championing community causes and encouraging youth participation in development and governance, Mwabaha is now seeking to take his service to the next level by contesting the Vanga Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat.
The upcoming election will mark his second attempt after unsuccessfully vying for the position in the 2022 General Election.
Mwabaha said he is entering the race with greater experience and a deeper understanding of the political landscape than he had during his first bid.
“Through my continuous engagement with the community, I have gained valuable experience and a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our people,” he said.
His campaign focuses on youth empowerment, healthcare, water connectivity, support for women-led initiatives, education improvement, and sustainable utilization of marine resources to create employment opportunities.
Currently, Mwabaha serves as the Founder and Executive Director of the Lunga Lunga Youth Community-Based Organization (CBO), where he champions youth empowerment, community development, and social justice initiatives across the constituency.
He also possesses training in Purchasing and Supply Management as well as Leadership and Management, skills he says have equipped him to promote accountability, manage resources effectively, and enhance service delivery.
Mwabaha envisions a Vanga where residents are actively involved in decision-making and benefit equally from development opportunities.
“We want to build a new Vanga where opportunities are accessible to all, regardless of age, gender, or social status. Every resident deserves to feel heard and represented,” he said.
The youthful leader criticized the current ward administration, arguing that it has not effectively fulfilled its oversight, legislative, and representation responsibilities.
According to him, many residents feel disconnected from their leaders and excluded from development opportunities.
He further noted that elected ward representatives should play a more active role in championing community interests and ensuring residents benefit from government programs.
“Ward representatives should be at the forefront of addressing residents’ needs, securing development projects, and linking communities with county and national government programs,” Mwabaha said.
He emphasized that effective leadership requires regular engagement with residents, close monitoring of development projects, and accountability in the use of public resources.
Mwabaha said Vanga residents deserve proactive leadership that will accelerate development and ensure no community is left behind.
“Vanga deserves better, and I am ready to provide the leadership needed to drive development across the ward. If elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure no part of Vanga is left behind,” he said.
