Kwale county Governor Fatuma Achani accompanied by Base Titanium top management on Wednesday launched a 107.9 million Kizingo dam water project in Macknon ward Samburu subcounty amid drought that is ravaging the area.
The dam will be distributing water to over 2,376 people cutting across five villages
Among the villages that will receive clean and treated water include Mwangaza, Kizingo A, Kizingo B,Donje and Ryakalui village.
The water will also be used by the residents to undertake agriculture through irrigation and livestock keeping
The dam has a capacity to hold over 532,740 M3 of water that will help locals in the area through drought season.
While addressing the locals Kwale county Achani said that the county is investing heavily on water infrastructure to ensure that Kwale locals can access clean water that is usable for domestic and agricultural purposes.
“We will build more dams across the county to ensure residents

have sufficient water to be used for domestic and agricultural purposes, “she said.
According to Achani, to fight hunger and starvation in the county as a result of drought there has to be sufficient water through construction of dams that will enable people to venture into agriculture and boost Kwale food basket .
Her sentiments were echoed by Kwale deputy governor Chirema Kombo who called upon other development partners to aid Kwale County government in the improvement of water infrastructure.
Simon Wall general manager Base Titanium said that the mining company will work with the county government to ensure realization of development in the county through improvement of infrastructure including water,roads and health
