Former Ndavaya ward representative has appealed to Kwale county governor to support over 500 people affected by the hurricane at Ndavaya town with food.

During the incident that occurred on 1 January this year about 102 households were affected where locals were rendered homeless after roofs of their houses were blown off.

The former MCA Masudi Ngando said that locals have not come to terms with the calamity a month after it took place.

β€œI am appealing to Governor Fatuma Achani to do something for my people, they are really suffering. I know she can help,” he said.

Speaking at Diani Dives Resort, Masudi said that Ndavaya dispensary, Nadavaya police station, Ndavaya social hall, MCA office, Ndavaya secondary school, mosque and churches as well as business premises were affected.

β€œIt is only the governor that I can ask for support so that my people can be helped. I know I was in another camp during the last election but she has my full support now that she is the governor,” he said.

Masudi noted that the fact that Governor Achani’s election was upheld by the Mombasa high court, she deserves support from every person to serve citizens.

He is among other MCAs who previously supported the candidature of Engineer Lung’anzi Chai β€œPerson I am ready to take any position she will give me because I do not have any other governor now but her,” he said.

Recently governor Achani administration led by deputy governor Chirema Kombo visited the affected families and distributed relief food.

“We have seen the extent of damage done by the aftermath of the hurricane and as the county we stand by you and we pledge to offer our support to all affected houses”, noted Chirema.

Chirema noted that the county will join forces with well-wishers in the rehabilitation and construction of the institutions and houses destroyed.

Deputy Chirema further issued food hampers to the community and promised more relief food as the county finds a lasting and concrete solution to the affected houses.

On his part, County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, assured residents that the Sub-county security team had conducted an assessment of the damage and had made stringent plans to assist houses whose roofs had been blown off with tents and food aid.

He further noted that 600 bags of beans and 520 bags of rice will be distributed to the affected residents as they come up with a lasting solution.

The Red Cross team conducted a survey and found out that out of 170 households in Ndavaya town 102 households were badly affected.

“We are still conducting assessment surveys to get the exact number of affected houses and promise to work closely with the county in providing relief to the people affected”, said Mohammed Mwaenzi, Kwale Red Cross Coordinator.
