About Sh.9 million bursaries for Jaribuni Ward residents in Kilifi County disbursed

Over 1000 secondary school students from Jaribuni Ward in Kilifi County have benefited from Ksh. 9 million bursaries from the national government constituency development fund(NG-CDF).

The funds are an aid to provide financial support to bright and needy students in the area, including people living with disabilities.

Speaking during the disbursement exercise at Jaribuni Deputy County Commissioners compound, Ganze Member of Parliament Kenneth Kazungu said most of the parents and guardians in his Constituency are unable to raise school fees for their children due to hunger that has hit the area for almost four consecutive seasons.

“As a leader, I’m committed to working with my NG-CDF committee to make sure that our children get the required education, to unburden the struggling parents in our county,” said Kazungu.

The lawmaker said that several students are experiencing fee challenges due to the high poverty rate being experienced in Kilifi County. He assured parents that his office will ensure that children from financially challenged families attain their academic goals through the funds.

He said education is the only means through which the county can use to bridge the gap between the poor and the rich in society.

“If you want to kill the society, deny children education, for this reason, our set objective is to ensure that we shape students so that we have a future generation comprised of professionals,” he said.

The MP warned the school principal against sending students home for lack of fees.

However, the MP said that the burden of paying fees falls on parents and teachers, not the students.

“It is sad to see students being sent home to collect fees when the teacher can summon the parent to discuss while the students keep learning. For us to get quality grades, the teachers and students need to have ample time together,” he added.
