Wiper Democratic Movement Party Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has urged President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga to intervene following a High Court order that stopped the implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report on electoral justice recommendations.
During a press briefing in Diani, Kwale County, Kalonzo accused the state of exerting undue influence on the judiciary to sway judgments, thus undermining its independence.
He termed the court order as a deliberate delay tactic in the implementation of the report.
As the Co-Chair of NADCO Kalonzo criticized the court order issued by Lady Justice Dora Chepkwony, labeling it as a deviation from the Bomas agreement.
The report, jointly prepared by representatives from Azimio and the Kenya Kwanza Coalition last year, was chaired by Kalonzo himself alongside Kenya Kwanza’s Kimani Ichung’wa.
”It is now the responsibility of those who appointed us to the committee to come forward and give direction,” he said.
Kalonzo also accused the Kenya Kwanza team of lacking goodwill and viewing their actions as a deliberate tactic to obstruct electoral justice while bolstering Azimio’s influence.
“The Kenya Kwanza team never had goodwill during the process, the problem in Kenya is this kind of politics of lies all the time. This state-sponsored court action must stop,” he said.
Joined by Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, Kalonzo expressed their readiness to resort to street demonstrations to advocate for Azimio’s stance on electoral justice.
”Get prepared for the consequences, we are ready to go back to Maandamano, Kenyans are fade up and tired of election rigging,” he said.
Wamalwa also echoed Musyoka’s sentiments, criticizing the state’s alleged lack of good faith throughout the NADCO talks and emphasizing the need to influence court decisions.
“Kenyans asked for the servers to be opened so that they could know the truth. This audit is what they wanted to stop,” said Wamalwa.
He added that all electoral concerns need to be addressed before the next general elections in the year 2027 so that future elections avoid the pitfalls of past elections and further ensure credible elections.
However, the two leaders said that as the Azimio coalition, they have good intentions to fully implement the agreements of the national dialogue committee without anyone causing hostility.
The High Court’s suspension of the NADCO report implementation on Friday has ignited controversy and halted the parliamentary audit process.
Questions have arisen regarding the report’s conformity with the Kenyan Constitution, further complicating he already contentious issue of electoral justice.
