Farmers who have already formed Saccos in their wards have benefited from desktops computers in a bid to enhance Agricultural production and promote a saving culture.

Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani who launched distribution at the county headquarters urged farmers to embrace the saving culture as a pathway to improved agricultural productivity and financial stability.

She said that the computers, procured by the county government under the National Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP), are part of ongoing efforts to support farmers’ Saccos across the county.

The governor emphasized on the importance of maintaining the devices, urging farmers who received the computers to take good care of them.

She also encouraged Kwale residents to join the Saccos saying “The county government is committed to ensuring that Kwale county is food secure. We will also continue investing in the construction of dams, especially in arid and semi-arid areas, to ensure our farmers can undertake irrigation farming even during dry seasons”.

The distributed computers are readily equipped with EASSY SACCO software, designed to streamline Sacco operations by reducing manual processes and increasing efficiency.

The technological upgrade aims to modernize Sacco management, allowing for more effective handling of member contributions and transactions.

In addition to the technological boost, under the NAVCDP project, the Saccos will benefit from inclusion grants amounting to Ksh 1,000,000, and are also eligible for a matching grant that will be determined by the loan demand in each Sacco, providing a further incentive for members to save and invest in agricultural ventures.

This initiative underscores the county government’s broader strategy to bolster the agricultural sector and improve the livelihoods of Kwale residents through increased efficiency and access to essential resources.

In attendance were CEC Members Roman Sherah (Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries), Mishi Kaole (Education), Saumu Mahaja (Environment and Natural Resources), and Chief Officers Joseph Jabu (Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries), Neema Suya (Environment and Natural Resources), amongst other county officials.
