Base Titanium in collaboration with Kwale county government on Wednesday distributed relief food to over 1650 households in five villages within Macknon ward that have been affected by drought.

The villages include mwangaza ,Donje,Kizingo A and B, and Ryakalui.

The relief food included 1650 bags consisting of 8kgs of maize flour, beans 8kgs and a liter of cooking oil among others.

Mwembeni residents in Samburu Chengoni ward that were recently evicted by a private developer also received 50 bags of the relief food.

The 50 bags included 15kgs of maize flour,10kgs of beans,5kgs of sugar 5kgs, 20gms of tea leaves 20gms and salt.

Base Titanium general manager Simon Wall who participated in the distribution of the food said that they will give their support where possible.

“We are your neighbors and we all know it is dry because there has been no rain and that is why we brought food after being asked by governor Fatuma Achani. The food will be enough for you and children but as you eat what we have brought, we pray to God that it rains,” he said.

Kwale governor Fatuma Achani called upon other well wishers apart from Base Titanium to support locals who are facing hunger.

She also took issue with those blaming her administration over the drought issue saying the area has lacked rain for the last three years.

“When you are doing good things people will definitely be attracted to you. Relief food is set to be brought in Kwale anytime,” said.

Saidi Mazera, one of the relief food beneficiaries, lauded Base Titanium and the County for supporting them, saying the situation is worse.

His sentiments were echoed by MucheKwisha Mwangolo, who said the relief food from the mining company and County government is going to help their families.

“We are really suffering because there is no rain and that means we did not plant anything, it is God who is going to help us,” she told Coast Times Digital.
