Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani, accompanied by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, on Saturday attended a mass wedding ceremony held at Baraza Park in Matuga Sub-County.
The weddings were sponsored through the Tandaza Foundation, where more than 300 couples from Kwale and Kilifi counties were officially married.
The ceremony was presided over by the Kenya Chief Kadhi, Sheikh Sukyan Hassan.
Speaking during the event, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya congratulated the couples and urged residents to continue supporting government leaders and community-based initiatives that uplift society.
“I commend Hon. Tandaza for this noble investment in societal wellness, an initiative that strengthens family values, promotes social stability, and nurtures moral responsibility within the community,” said CS Mvurya.
On her part, Governor Achani praised the successful organisation of the mass wedding, noting the importance of collaboration between government institutions and religious leaders in supporting family units.
The governor observed that many residents lack marriage certificates due to the high costs associated with traditional and formal wedding processes.
“I want to sincerely thank the organisers of this event for stepping in to support our people. Many couples desire to formalise their unions but are held back by financial constraints. This initiative not only restores dignity to families but also ensures that marriages are legally recognised,” said Governor Achani.
National Chief Kadhi Sheikh Sukyan Hassan emphasized the need to continuously sensitise communities on the importance of marriage, noting that formal unions play a critical role in strengthening families and society at large.
Matuga Member of Parliament Kassim Sawa Tandaza said the preparations for the event were aimed at easing the burden of wedding costs, particularly for underprivileged families.
He added that the initiative seeks to promote unity, moral values and social responsibility within the community.
