Kwale County Governor, Fatuma Achani has urged youth from the county to stop involving themselves in criminal activities.
Instead she said they should embrace productive activities such as joining football clubs, Saccos and opening companies to benefit from government programs.
This comes following a wave of juvenile gangs emerging from different areas within the county such as Waa-Ng’ombeni, Ukunda-Diani and Kombani areas.
These gangs have mainly been composed of youths between 14 years and 25 years.
Speaking at a fundraiser event organized by Black Eagles Fc at Mbweka in Waa-Ng’ombeni ward, she decried the high cases of youth involvement in gang related activities.
Achani advised the youth to be productive for the betterment of the county and country at large.
“I appeal to the youth to maintain peace and security. There is no country that can develop without peace and security.” She reiterated.
So far over 60 companies have been registered within the county.
She asked the youth present to come together and take advantage of opportunities at both national and county level.
“If you youth decide to register companies, tenders from the county provide a sure way of generating income.” She assured them.
She commended all the security agencies involved in ensuring that insecurity within the county is dealt with.
She urged them to continue and ensure that security within the county is maintained.
Echoing the Governor’s sentiments Kwale County women Member of Parliament Fatuma Masito called on youth to embrace unity and discipline to ensure that they have a future.
“The first thing is discipline, you cannot be successful in life without discipline. With discipline everything will fall into place.” She said.

Kwale youth have been urged to shun criminal activities, concentrate on talent development, and open small businesses to improve lives.
Governor Fatuma Achani said the county is committed to supporting youth through sports and nurturing talents to transform their lives.
Achani said the county is building new football stadiums and improving existing ones to promote local football and talent development among young people.
“We have taken the initiative of developing stadiums and improving sports facilities to help nurture talents across the county and host national sports events,” she said.
Achani said the development of grassroots sports will strengthen the base of sports talents and expose youth to better opportunities.
She said instead of youth wasting time in mugoka base and streets, they should utilise the existing sports facilities to showcase and develop their talents.
The governor said sports is one of the enablers of the sustainable Development Goals.
She said young people can use their skills in sports to promote economic development.
“There are athletes, footballers and other sports professionals earning millions and this is something that our youth can copy,” she said.
Achani said the county is putting in place affirmative measures to elevate sports activities and improve talent development in the county.
She said that her administration is focused on the use of sports and capacity enhancement to achieve meaningful youth engagement.
The governor also noted that the youth can transform their local football clubs into companies.
She said one way young people can speed up economic development is by registering their football teams as companies to do business with the government.
Achani said already 60 youth and women groups have been registered as companies and are winning county tenders.
She said the majority of the youth and women, owning companies have improved their lives and are continuing to grow.
The county boss said her administration prioritizes youth and women empowerment since they are key to economic development.
She said that the county has incorporated youth empowerment into its development agenda and has been able to design innovative programs in agriculture, sports, and the blue economy to benefit them.
The governor stated that the initiative aims to promote inclusive development and platforms that will create job opportunities for unemployed youth.
Achani reaffirmed her commitment to providing the necessary resources and opportunities for skill development and employment that will allow youth and women to reach their full potential.
“We will stay focused and create a conducive environment for talent growth and development of youth and women,” she said.
Kwale women rep Fatuma Masito challenged the youth to take sports seriously and treat it like a profession.
She underscored the importance of the youth to shun drugs and substance abuse as it impedes their progress.
Masito urged young people to maintain the high discipline to effectively develop their talents and grow.
She said sports pays well but discipline and a lot of determination is required.
“You need not to be told how much international footballers earn but to reach that level you have to master the art of discipline,” she said.
Masito said the county leaders are working tirelessly to ensure youth lives are improved.
