Sombre mood has engulfed Kaloleni sub county in Kilifi after a Early Childhood Development Education minor died after he was hit by a flying iron sheet caused by a strong wind witnessed at the Coast.
Kilifi Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro while addressing a Kaunti Mashinani rally at Chumani in Matsangoni ward said the unfortunate incident lead to loss of life asking residents to be careful.
Mung’aro ordered for temporary closure of all ECDE centres for one week in the area to monitor the heavy wind situation.
The Governor said that the strong wind witnessed on Tuesday caused several damages with some trees falling and closing roads in Takaungu and some electricity poles also falling and endangering the lives of the people.
He directed his disaster team to be prepared and assist affected families.
Also he sked them to make sure that people stay away from trees and dilapidated building and infrastructures that can endanger their lives.
Kilifi County Executive in charge of Gender, and Disaster Management Dr Ruth Masha told fishermen to keep off the ocean because of the strong winds.
Dr Dama asked the people to call the county emergency number 1535 in case of any emergency of disaster to enable a quick reaction from the county.
The extent of the destruction was evident when a roof was blown off at a building housing a cooperative society in Chumani.
The victims said they had suffered a loss estimated at Sh300,000 following the winds.
Huduma centre in Kilifi town was also affected by the strong wind with several infrastructures destroyed.
