Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has officially commissioned the Naserian Water Pan and Micro-Irrigation Project in Naserian, Mwereni Ward, Lungalunga Sub-County.

The project aimed at addressing water shortages and promote food security for the Naserian community.

Implemented by the Kwale County Government in partnership with the Saidia Kwale Foundation, the initiative is expected to ease residents’ struggles in accessing water and promote irrigation farming to boost food production and achieve self-sufficiency for the local community.

To date, the Kwale County Government has constructed over 60 dams, more than 100 boreholes, and expanded over 600 kilometers of water pipelines to ensure residents have access to clean water for domestic use and irrigation to enhance food production.

Speaking during the launch, Governor Achani said her administration will continue collaborating with various development partners to bring progress to the people of Kwale.

“Our aim is not only to provide reliable access to clean water but also to empower our farmers to produce more food and increase their income,” she noted.

Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo noted that the projects are being implemented efficiently due to the unity among local leaders.

“Where there is peace among leaders, development will definitely be there,” he added.

Founder of the Saidia Kwale Foundation, Hendrik Stegenga, commended Governor Achani’s leadership and the County Government’s focus on sustainable development, saying the Foundation remains committed to working with local communities and partners to implement similar climate-resilient projects across the region.

“We are proud to be part of this initiative that not only provides water but also nurtures opportunity and hope,” he added.

Lungalunga Member of Parliament Mangale Chiforomodo and Mwereni Ward MCA Manza Beja urged residents to take good care of the project, saying it would transform their lives.

Teresia Maina, a Naserian resident, commended the County Government’s efforts, noting that the new water pan will help reduce the long distances they previously walked in search of water and open new opportunities for agribusiness.

Present were CECs, Chief Officers, Directors, and other officials.
