Learning activities at the Godoma technical training institute was paralyzed after students staged protest over alleged poor management

Then Students held a peaceful demonstration demanding a change of the institution’s management.

The students disrupted learning and marched along the Kilifi-Matanomane Road, where they lit bonfire and chanted slogans against the management.

The students complained that they were being charged exorbitant fees while their tutors were being transferred without any justification.

Pauline Mnyazi, a student in the Electrical department, said some of the instructors had been transferred to disciplines they had not trained in.

She said the management board of governors had increased fees without improving the services, noting that the institute lacked basic training tools.

“We are forced to pay Sh13,000 examination fees instead of the prescribed Sh7,000,” she said adding, “The institute does not have a student council, yet we pay student council fees.”

Joel Masai, another student, claimed that the institute was providing students with poor food and that living conditions in the boarding section were pathetic.

He said although students do national examinations, the institute does not conduct graduations as is the norm with other institutes of the same calibre.

Daniel Mwangome, a parent, said although parents pay fees for practicals, the students do not do practical work.

He also said members of the community were complaining that they were not getting Tenders from the institute despite it being situated in the locality
