Chaos erupted during a meeting attended by Cabinet secretary for mining Ali Hassan Joho in Nandi as two groups demanded to address their grievances around mining activities.

Joho who was accompanied by Nandi governor Stephene Sang is in the area to meet locals in his familiarization tour on matters around minerals.

The incident at Karebe in Nandi saw the two groups fighting over mining almost ended the CS meeting saying there are issues that need to be addressed by the ministry of mining in the country.

Some of the issues they claimed are minerals being extracted at Chemase in Tinderet without existing mining laws being followed.

The Joho meeting was disrupted for some time with the warring groups saying miners in the area have continued to abuse locals .

Joho warned politicians against interfering on issues of mining in the area.
Joho said that mining activities in the country are set to benefit the country’s economy as well as settling countries’ pending debts.

He said that some illegal miners extract gold and sell it outside the country without paying taxes.
