A devastating house fire in the Tukutane area of Kwale County has left a mother and her child in critical condition.
The incident has shaken the local community with residents rallying to assist emergency responders.
Reports indicate that the fire originated from a charcoal stove within the family’s residence although police are yet to complete their investigation.
The rapid spread of the flames quickly engulfed the structure, trapping the woman and her child inside.
“It was a scene of chaos. The smoke was thick, and people were screaming. We did everything we could to help,” recounted Omari Said, a resident who witnessed the incident.
Emergency services, including the Kwale County Fire Brigade and the Kenya Red Cross, swiftly arrived at the scene.
They worked alongside local residents to extinguish the blaze and provide immediate medical assistance.
The victims were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, Rayaan Hospital where they are currently receiving urgent care.
Medical personnel have confirmed that both individuals sustained severe injuries and remain in critical condition.
“The situation is very serious. We are doing everything possible to stabilize their condition,” stated Mr. Aluboya, a medical professional at the hospital.
Residents of Tukutane have expressed deep concern for the victims and their family. Many have come forward to offer support, providing essential supplies and assistance to those affected.
Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution when using such appliances, particularly during dry weather conditions.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by household fires and the importance of fire safety awareness.
