Siaya Governor James Orengo has warned that any
attempt by the national government to scrap the mandatory live streaming of
election results will face stiff resistance from Kenyans, terming such
legislative plans unconstitutional and an attempt to compromise the 2027
General Election.
Speaking on Saturday at the Kwale homestead of
Mijikenda community spokesperson Ali Chirau Mwakwere, the Liberal Democratic
Party leader and alternative government chief took a swipe at President William
Ruto's administration, accusing it of economic sabotage and widespread human
rights violations.
He said that they will be forced to go to court
if such a bill is passed in parliament since it is meant to undermine the
spirit of the 2010 constitution on matters of election where transparency and
accountability is mandatory.
Orengo focused heavily on local grievances,
taking the Ruto administration to task over the management of the
multi-trillion-shilling mineral deposits at Mrima Hills in Lungalunga.
He claimed that the national government is
plotting to exploit the region's rare earth and niobium minerals without giving
locals a direct share of the proceeds.
"Our administration will ensure that the
minerals worth billions at Mrima Hills in Kwale benefit the locals
directly," Orengo promised. "We will protect this wealth from
state-backed syndicates trying to take it away."
Turning to the maritime sector, Orengo accused
the administration of failing the residents of the Coast region regarding
employment opportunities at the Port of Mombasa. He alleged that lucrative port
jobs are systematically being handed to outsiders at the expense of qualified
local youths.
The Siaya Governor strongly condemned the
government's fiscal policies, asserting that the state has aggressively
"invaded the pay slips of innocent workers" through oppressive
taxation, leaving families economically crippled. He assured Kenyans that a
united opposition is formatting a formidable coalition to salvage the country’s
economic fortunes once they take office in 2027.
Orengo further reminded President Ruto that the
10-point national agenda championed by the late opposition leader Raila Odinga
remains entirely unaddressed particularly regarding job creation and structural
governance reforms
The Senior Counsel raised the alarm over a sharp
rise in forced disappearances and extrajudicial executions.
"We are witnessing an unprecedented wave of
state-sponsored abductions and extrajudicial killings," Orengo said.
"This regime is turning Kenya into a police state, and this blatant
violation of the right to life must be stopped immediately."
On his side Ali Chirau Mwakwere said that the alternative
government is focused on unseating president William Ruto after successfully
registering different political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said that they will be soon unveiling their
presidential candidate backed by all opposition parties to face it off with
Ruto.
“We have been working silently to register
parties because we knew our enemy would want to put us down but now we
outsmarted him. He is cornered badly. He has no strategy to win. It is evident
we are taking over in 2027,” said Mwakwere.
He claimed that they already have begun discussion on their preferred flag bearer and that everything is going on well.
Also present during the
event was former Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo who noted that the opposition has taken
over all regions ready to defeat president Ruto regime in the first round.
He accused the Ruto administration of failing
the coast people on matters of job opportunities.
“The Coast is gone to the opposition,
western and eastern is gone as well as central where else will he get votes
from?” posed Mbogo.
