UDA will former Kilifi County Assembly Speaker Jimmy Kahindi as it’s governor candidate in Kilifi county following the exit of former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa from the ruling party, Secretary General Hassan Omar has said.

Jumwa defected to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi-led Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) last week.

Omar spoke at ACK Holy Trinity, Kericho during the county’s sensitization exercise ahead of the party’s grassroots elections in 20 counties.

“He (Jimmy Kahindi) was speaker for Kilifi County Assembly for ten years and now that Aisha (Jumwa) has defected to PAA we will field him as our governor candidate for Kilifi County,” he said.

Kahindi headed President William Ruto’s i2022 campaigns in Kilifi County after he was denied the ODM ticket that was handed over to Gideon Mung’aro who went ahead to win the governorship.

Kahindi is a member of UDA’s National Elections Board that is charged with conducting party nominations and elections.

Omar said UDA will field candidates across the board come 2027 and was preparing the ground by strengthening grassroots structures through the party polls that come on January 10, 2026.

“We will filed candidates everywhere as a party,” he said.

Battle lines are now drawn in Kilifi County with the lastest declaration from the ruling party as Mung’aro is likely to face off with Jumwa, Kahindi, and Nairobi based advocate George Kithi.

Omar’s declaration allays fears of zoning that has gripped supporters of UDA and Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties after the party backed ODM’s Harry Kombe instead of Stanley Kenga who joined DCP in the recently concluded Magarini by-election.
