President William Ruto has launched the first phase of an affordable housing project in Kwale Town, Matuga Sub-County.

The initiative, valued at KSh 400 million, will feature 200 modern houses and a 10-story building.

The project also comprises modern shops and a playing park among others.

Speaking during the launch, Ruto said the project is part of a broader plan to construct approximately 6,000 additional homes across the county.

Ruto said that the project aims to enhance access to affordable and quality housing while generating employment opportunities for Kenyans

He said that the project would create jobs for at least 3,000 young people, who will be involved in various construction roles.

“This housing project is designed to not only provide affordable living spaces but also to create jobs for our youth and improve the overall quality of life for our people,” he said.

Ruto said that his administration is committed to improving housing conditions for ordinary citizens and bridging the gap between the wealthy and the less privileged.

Ruto highlighted that, through the housing project, ordinary citizens would have the opportunity to own a decent home for as little as KSh 2,500 per month.

He also noted that the government aims to tackle land injustices and eliminate squatter issues with the housing initiative.

“We want to ensure that locals have access to quality housing and address the challenges of squatters,” he said.

The president also inaugurated an ICT hub at the newly constructed Matuga Technical and Vocational College.

Ruto said that the ICT hub is fully equipped with reliable internet and computers, providing the youth with essential training to secure jobs in the digital and e-commerce sectors.

He said the training will be offered free of charge to ensure that vulnerable groups have equal access to education and employment opportunities.

The president revealed plans for a new funding model to support youth education at the Matuga Technical and Vocational College and across the country.

He noted that the college will be operational starting next week.

Ruto urged young people to take full advantage of the ICT hub and vocational training to acquire skills, secure employment, and enhance their lives.

Ruto said that his administration is dedicated to transforming the lives of Kenyans and advancing the development agenda.

However, he also called for peace and unity, stressing that Kenya’s progress cannot be achieved through chaos and division, but through constructive and inclusive agendas.

“We lost an opportunity for development because of chaos,” he said.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also urged Kenyans to remain united and uphold peace.

He emphasized that supporting the President’s call for unity is crucial, as peace will foster the growth of tourism and boost the economy.
