President William Ruto has officially launched the Last Mile Connectivity project in Kiwegu, Lungalunga, Kwale County, a transformative initiative aimed at expanding electricity access to the countty.

The government has allocated Ksh. 1.44 billion to the project which is set to connect 12,707 households across Kwale.

Speaking at the launch, President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that all Kenyans, including those in rural areas have access to affordable and reliable electricity.

He emphasized that electricity is not just a convenience but a crucial driver of economic growth, security, and improved livelihoods.

Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani praised the president’s efforts, noting that the initiative would bring life-changing opportunities to residents in remote areas. She emphasized that access to electricity would boost local businesses, education, and overall quality of life.

Lungalunga MP Mangale Chiforomodo echoed these sentiments, describing the project as a game-changer for the region. He highlighted that electricity coverage in Kwale would rise from 30% to over 50%, significantly improving the county’s economic prospects and attracting investment.

With 124 new transformers set to power thousands of homes, the Last Mile Connectivity project marks a major step in the country toward universal electricity access.
