Kwale County has officially launched a public participation exercise aimed at gathering citizen input on the proposed 2025–2026 Finance Bill, the supplementary budget for the 2024–2025 financial year, and the Biashara Revolving Fund across the 20 Wards.
The exercise involved various stakeholders including the general public, Kwale County representatives and the County budget Committee, giving the Kwale County residents the opportunity to express their views on the proposed County development projects.
The four-day engagement, which kicked off on Monday, was held across five wards—Tiwi, Waa Ng’ombeni, Bongwe Gombato, Ukunda, and Kinondo.
Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani emphasizing on the County Government’s commitment to inclusive governance and accountability through structured public engagement.
“Public participation is not just a constitutional requirement; it is the foundation of people-centered development. Our citizens must have a voice in shaping the policies and projects that impact their daily lives,” said Governor Achani.
According to Patrick Yasisi, Chairperson of the County Budget Committee, the forums play a crucial role in aligning County development priorities with community aspirations.
“Public engagement in the budget-making process has played a major role in earning Kwale County the top position nationally in budget transparency,” Yasisi stated.
Residents from Tiwi Ward led by George Thairo, welcomed the process, saying it ensures that county projects reflect the true priorities of the people.
“We appreciate that the County involves us not just in planning, but also in project management and our participation shows that the County leadership genuinely values our input.” said Thairo.
The forums are set to conclude on Thursday, after which the public feedback will be consolidated and the proposed documents submitted to the Kwale County Assembly for review and approval.
Governor Achani reaffirmed that her administration will continue to promote transparency, accountability, and grassroots involvement in all development initiatives, ensuring that no voice goes unheard.
