Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has directed that the 1,300 acres within the Kichaka Mkwaju Gunyu 5041 and Nikaphu 5056 settlement schemes be subdivided and that residents be surveyed and allocated parcels based on where they currently occupy the land.

Governor Achani further directed teams from both the National and County Governments to involve local residents throughout the subdivision and surveying process to ensure transparency and fairness.

The Kwale County Government has also successfully repossessed 31 acres of land on Chale Island in Msambweni Sub-County, land on Kisite Mpunguti Island in Lunga Lunga Sub-County, and a 13-acre parcel in Diani Beach, Msambweni Sub-County.

Addressing residents at Kichaka Mkwaju in Pongwe-Kikoneni Ward, Lunga Lunga Sub-County, Governor Achani said the County Government would not allow residents to continue losing their ancestral land to wealthy individuals.

“The people of Kwale have been deprived of their land for a long time, and we will not allow any resident of Kwale to sell their land to wealthy individuals,” said Governor Achani.

Lunga Lunga Member of Parliament Mangale Chiforomodo supported the Governor’s remarks, saying leaders would continue working together to ensure that residents recover land that had been taken from them.

“We want to ensure that the issue of squatters comes to an end in Kwale so that our people can live in peace,” he said.

County Assembly Land Committee Chairperson Juma Maone assured residents that the County Assembly would ensure the subdivision process will be conducted fairly and transparently.

“Residents are often disadvantaged when land is being subdivided, but this time, we will ensure that everyone is surveyed and allocated land where they currently live,” said Maone.

Kichaka Mkwaju Gunyu 5041 Chairman Kombo Kirua commended Governor Achani and her administration for providing direction on the resurveying and subdivision of the land.

The meeting was attended by Pongwe-Kikoneni MCA Omar Mwaduga, County Attorney Salim Gombeni, County Solicitor Kisiwa Koja, CECM for Lands Saumu Mahaja, CECM for Tourism Michael Mutua, CECM for Water Hemed Mwabudzo, directors, administrators, members of the security team, and other County Government officials.
