Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani recently presided over empowerment programs for the Magomani Women Group in Bomani, Msambweni, and the Lebanon Football Club at Mabatani Village, Ramisi Ward, within Msambweni Constituency.

The Kwale County Government continues to empower local football clubs and youth through sports infrastructure development, gear distribution, and deliberate economic integration initiatives.

    Transitioning Sports into Business

Addressing football enthusiasts at Mabatani Village, Governor Achani urged sports clubs across the county to transition from informal groups into registered limited companies. This formalization, she noted, is key to unlocking commercial procurement opportunities from both the National and County governments.

“Transitioning into formal business entities will enable local football clubs to secure lucrative county government procurement tenders. This will create sustainable revenue streams to fund club operations and pay players regularly,” Governor Achani stated.

Local clubs such as Wayzatta FC, Samburu FC, and Wellers FC have already adopted this model, successfully registering as limited companies and winning county tenders. Under the Achani administration, the county has already awarded contracts for general supplies, pipeline extensions, and the construction of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres and dispensaries to over 300 limited companies run by women, youth, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

    Leaders Back the Development Agenda

Msambweni Member of Parliament Feisal Badar commended Governor Achani for her transformative development agenda. He praised the initiative to elevate self-help groups for women, youth, and PWDs into corporate entities, noting that it has significantly empowered grassroots wananchi (citizens) across Kwale.

“Kwale is safe under the leadership of Mama Achani. I urge residents to re-elect her in the next polls because her development track record speaks for itself,” said MP Feisal Badar.

Echoing these sentiments, Vunga team manager Hassan Hussein expressed deep gratitude to both tiers of government for investing heavily in grassroots sports infrastructure and elevating the regional sports industry.

    Dignitaries in Attendance

The empowerment and fundraising event attracted several senior government officials, including:

Hanifa Mwajirani — MCA, Ramisi Ward

Fransisca Kilonzo — CEC, Social Services

Michael Mutua — CEC, Tourism and ICT

Shikeli Badru — Chief Officer, Water

Salim Zimbu — Chief Officer, Roads

    Mshenga Ruga — Political Advisor

Various county directors and senior administrators.
