Put up roads along Boni and Somali border to tame insecurity, Lamu leader urge

The National government should open up areas of Boni forest by construction of roads and schools in the interior areas that boarders Somalia, former Lamu Senatorial aspirant Francis Mugo has said.

He also urged the National government and the Lamu County government to conclusively address the insecurity issues in the county.

Mugo said the since the 2014 Mpeketoni attack that claimed nearly 100 lives, Lamu has not been in peace.

“Since the 2014 attacks in Mpeketoni that claimed close to 100 lives, Lamu people have never known peace because the attacks take place every year claiming many innocent lives”, he said.

He said there is a need to change tact in dealing with the perennial insecurity issues in the county.

Mugo said that the government should address marginalization issues since they are soft target that the enemies use to execute the evil schemes, instead of the deployment of heavy security which has never yielded fruits.

“We need to incorporate all local communities living in Lamu County in income generating activities. Lamu needs industries which will create business and employment opportunities to the youth”, he said.

” A university and a college will be a better idea in both Lamu and its neighboring Tana River County so that the youth in these counties can acquire education to enable them compete competitively in the national activities and opportunities,” he appealed.

The Lamu attacks are believed to be either politically instigated or land ownership row that the national government has so far not addressed it well.

This came few days after several people died following a well coordinated attack in Lamu.
