The county government of Kwale through the Department of Social Services and Talent Management SSTM has set plans of empowering women and youth groups.

Among the plans set is training to empower the groups with skills and also help them to register into companies.

Speaking at Makongeni in Kinondo ward Msambweni sub-county County Executive Member for Social Services and Talent Management Francisca Kilonzo said the department is working in collaboration with Trade and Finance departments to conduct a training that will finally enable the groups to get registered into companies.

‘‘As a department we have the mandate to empower women and youth through their groups, we will follow the due processes to help them register into groups’’

Kilonzo added that the process will also include training group members on how to upload their tender documents into the IFMIS system for validation of winning tenders.

Already over 100 groups have been empowered and registered into companies and the department is aiming at linking the groups with other county departments so as to achieve their plans.

‘‘We want change the system of VSLAs into companies to compete for tenders, the VSLAs have really been performing well but we want to enable them to grow now’’

People living with special needs, women and youths are among the people targeted to get empowerment and their share is 30% of the tenders.

The county government has been empowering agricultural based groups through the NARIGP program a share from the national government

INSHAALAH VSLA group from Makongeni Kinondo ward in Msambweni Sub- County is one of the groups that has already benefited with the empowerment program and is longing to get registered as a company.

The group has been conducting farming and has already experienced two seasons of harvest.

Khadija Changu, the group’s chairlady says that they are hoping to benefit from the 30% share of tenders as a women group from the county government after being registered.
