Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has threatened to withdraw scholarships to students who will fail to get quality grades.

The governor has already started issuance of scholarships to all continuing students.

He said his administration is aiming at supporting needy but bright students to pursue their secondary school education.

The governor has issued cheques worth Ksh. 4.9 million to Lamu Girls Secondary School which will cater for over 200 continuing students that are already enrolled under the scholarship program.

Timamy has further reiterated his commitment to improving the standards of education in Lamu and congratulated the outstanding students under the scholarship program encouraging them to work harder.

“My administration has kept the promise of awarding scholarships to needy students. I will remain committed to ensuring the transformation of our county through education as envisioned in my development plan,” he said.

The governor further promised to motivate both teachers and learners in all schools that perform well as well as introduce county exams.

The Governor also issued scholarship cheques worth Ksh. 8.4 million to Mpeketoni Boys secondary school.

The scholarship will benefit 375 continuing students who are currently enrolled in the County Scholarship program.

Education C.E.C.M Sebastian Owanga noted that the Department of Education will oversee a transparent process where only qualified students will be awarded the county scholarships.
