After losing 12 pregnancies for a period of 18 years Marceline Dama from Malindi in Kilifi county has given birth at the Samburu hospital in Kwale county to her bouncing baby boy.

The 36 years old Dama has gone through a very difficult period of taking care of pregnancy which would either end at 6th or seventh month with a stillbirth.

When she got pregnant with the 13th baby and was told about how health officials at the Samburu hospital are caring and committed, gave it a try to go for her final clinic there.

Worried about her previous situation of either giving birth to a dead baby or giving birth to babies and dying, Dama attended her clinic and booked a date to give birth.

On Thursday Samburu hospital Gynecology , Consultant, Anesthetist and a theater Clinical officer specialist embarked on a journey to help Dama hold her 13th baby alive successfully through caesarean.

Alive to the fact that Dama has past pregnancy trauma of losing babies, the Samburu health officials gave it all they could and handed her baby safely.

Samburu hospital was upgraded to a sub-county hospital recently with the county government of Kwale equipping it with drugs and personnel to serve residents.

The hospital boasts of having two operation theaters, renovated wards, additional 2 doctors and over 6 nurses.

Meanwhile Kwale county oncology center has had its first cancer patient getting chemotherapy services on Thursday.

The successful service at the Oncology center is a testimony that those who had to travel to Mombasa and Nairobi for such services are relieved.

Kwale county health executive committee member Francis Gwama said that the patient will be visiting the facility to complete all the cycles.

The center was opened last month to the public during a G7 visit where Kwale governor Fatuma Achani led other women governors in the country in launching various projects across the county.
