In a significant boost to infrastructure and security, Mombasa County Governor Abdulswammad Sharrif Nassir has launched two major road 7.5 kilometers projects in Timbwani Ward.
It includes the construction of a 3.5-kilometer tarmac road and a separate 4-kilometer road in Timbwani Constituency aimed at easing transportation and enhancing connectivity for residents.
Community safety being a primary concern, Governor Nassir highlighted the county’s commitment to improving security.
He also announced plans to install CCTV cameras throughout Likoni ward to curb rising insecurity caused by machete-wielding gangs.
Additionally, security lights will be set up in Timbwani and Kindunguni, expanding on the existing network of 300 streetlights.
In an ambitious move for the county’s sports infrastructure, the governor said that Mwahima Stadium in Likoni is set to be upgraded to FIFA standards next year enabling the stadium to host higher-level football matches and other major events.
Being one of the disasters undermining the growth of Likoni, the governor envisioned improved healthcare access.
”In nine days’ time”, he stated, ”mass registration for health insurance will begin, focusing on assisting vulnerable families unable to afford medical bills”.
Likoni’s economic opportunities are expected to expand with the upcoming launch of the “Skills Mitaani” program, a youth-focused initiative to provide technical training in plumbing, welding, and other trades.
This program is slated for February, offering a new avenue for employment and skill-building in the area.
County leaders voiced strong support for the governor’s initiatives.
Likoni’s area MP, Mishi Mboko, commended Likoni residents for electing Governor Nassir under the ODM ticket, attributing the area’s infrastructure improvements to this decision.
Regarding the rumors surrounding the governor and sodomy cases in court that have left Mombasa residents divided , Mishi Mboko reassured residents of Nassir’s focus on development rather than political distractions.
With a solid support base in the county assembly, Governor Nassir’s administration has set its sights on making Mombasa a model for regional development, security, and inclusivity.
