A sign of relief to Isaack Nyondo Primary school in Rabai Kilifi County, as Simba Cement Company commenced drilling of a bore hole to address water shortage among learners and community around.
Speaking during the official commissioning of the drilling process, the school principal, Josephine Njagi, admitted going through challenges among them lack of adequate water in the institution.
“Our school population currently stands at 1143 pupils among them 44 in the special units, and I believe with this project it will be a relief to us. We believe once this project is completed, we will not have water problems again in this school.” Noted the Njagi
At the same time, she revealed that over 50% of the special unit students are forced to remain at home due to various challenges that once solved will increase their attendance in school.
However, head of administration at Devki Group of companies, Peter Paul, assured the school and the Rabai community of their commitment in ensuring the benefit from their presence.
“As Simba cement, an affiliate of Devki group of companies, we want to be a blessing to this school and the community around, this borehole is just one of the plans that we have in giving back to the society,” Noted Paul
The administrator urged school administrations and locals to dedicate the company in prayers to fulfil their planned programs that focus on empowering the community within Rabai.
Similar sentiments were shared by Simba Cement, human resource manager, Beryl Kilele, adding that the borehole project was timely as most parts of Rabai continue to experience acute water shortage.
“Kilifi is experiencing water problems; however, as we move forward and our business going up the same will be reflected back to the community, we will be partnering with relevant stakeholders including the area Mp and initiate more projects within.” Assured Kilele.
Rabai member of parliament, Anthony Kenga, urged Rabai residents to be patient as the leadership in Kilifi and within Rabai are putting efforts to avert the water shortage.
Kenga admitted Rabai residents were going through difficult times sourcing for water in their homes adding that he will work with the county government as well as engage other partners to ensure availability of adequate water.
“Despite water being devolved, as a citizen and a leader in the national government, I will use the NG-CDF act that gives me the mandate to construct bore halls as well as engage stakeholders like Simba Cement in helping the county government in bringing solutions to water problems.” Said Kenga.
