Likoni MP Hon. Mishi Mboko joined key leaders at the launch of the transformative Skills Mtaani Driving School Bursary Program, a transformative initiative funded with a cheque worth Ksh. 80 million to equip over 4,000 young people across Mombasa’s 30 wards with essential driving skills.
The program, supported by the Mombasa County Government seeks to train, test, and license youth in line with NTSA standards, paving the way for improved employability and self-reliance.
Speaking at the event at Mama Ngina Waterfront, MP Mboko reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, emphasizing the importance of equipping young people with practical skills to secure better livelihoods.
“This program is a game-changer for our youth. It gives them a chance to become self-reliant and seize employment opportunities, especially in the growing transport sector,” she stated.
The driving bursary program is specifically tailored to assist individuals from low-income backgrounds who may not be able to afford the costs associated with driving school and licensing fees.
Eligible participants, aged between 18 and 35, must be residents of Mombasa County and enrolled in recognized driving schools.
MP Mboko, alongside Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, Woman Representative MP Zamzam Mohamed, Jomvu MP Badi Twalib, and County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri, highlighted the importance of creating a skilled and empowered generation.
Governor Nassir lauded the initiative as a cornerstone of his administration’s strategy to address unemployment.
However, MP Mboko’s vocal support underscored her dedication to youth development, urging beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity to transform their lives.
“This program aligns with our vision of a skilled and prosperous community. We want our youth to thrive, not just survive. This is one of the many steps we are taking to ensure they can compete in a dynamic job market,” Mboko added.
As Likoni MP, Mishi Mboko has championed various youth-centered initiatives, from supporting technical education to pushing for infrastructure development in her constituency.
Her active participation in the Skillz Mtaani launch further solidifies her position as a staunch advocate for youth empowerment.
The launch event, held at a central venue in Mombasa, was marked by enthusiasm from local leaders and young people eager to benefit from the program.
MP Zamzam Mohamed and MP Badi Twalib echoed similar sentiments, expressing their support for creating pathways to success for Mombasa’s youth.
As part of the program, participants will undergo structured training and testing to meet NTSA standards.
This professional approach ensures they graduate not only with a driving license but also with the confidence and competence to navigate the workforce.
With the Skillz Mtaani Driving School Bursary Program now underway, leaders like MP Mishi Mboko remains at the forefront of efforts to drive Likoni as part of Mombasa County towards a future where its youth are skilled, empowered, and ready to lead.
