All drivers have been urged to take breaks in between trips as a way of curbing accidents and maintaining safety on the roads.
Speaking during the launch of the nationwide campaign “Tufike Poa na EAGOL” the CEO Abdi Ali said that the oil and gas company is prioritizing the safety of drivers through offering them space to park their vehicles and rest as well as refreshments before continuing with their trip.
“Tufike Poa na EAGOL” is a campaign that is aimed at curbing driver fatigue which is one of the causes of road accidents and in return, road safety will be upheld.
Specifically targeting long distance drivers, EAGOL emphasized on the importance of taking breaks in between the trips.
“On the road, drivers have their eyes wide open but they are fatigued due to the road challenges they may face,” said Abdi.
Recalling the number of accidents that are recorded during the festive season, Abdi urged all road users to make regular stops, stretch, hydrate and recharge stating that it is one of the ways of prioritizing one’s health and wellbeing.
According to a report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), there’s an increase in road accidents this year when compared to 2023, with the number of casualties at 21,620 by November, 2024.
Partnering with Safaricom in the road safety campaign, EAGOL has equipped its customers with a loyalty programme that will enable one to earn redeemable loyalty points after every purchase of either fuel or refreshments at their convenience store known as “Qshiba”.
“With the loyalty points, once redeemed you can get airtime and Safaricom data bundles,” added Alex Okoth, Enterprise Business Unit of Safaricom.
With the phrase “Let’s make our roads safer, one break at a time” EAGOL’s road safety campaign is encouraging drivers to start seeing breaks as part of driving safely and not a sign of weakness or delay noting that fatigue is a silent killer on the roads.
This campaign will run in all EAGOL petrol stations across East Africa as drivers are assured of parking and recharging with some water and tea at no cost.
