Experts in eye treatment warn against using naked dirty hands rubbing eyes as they risk infections, which may lead to serious eye problems as 375 Rabai residents benefit from free eye clinics courtesy of Jumbo Steel Mill ltd and Lions Club of Mombasa.

According to the second vice district governor of lions 411A, Lion Inderjeet Singh, there is a need to have regular eye checkups to reduce chances of losing sight.

Speaking at Rabai, during an outreach exercise Singh advocated for use of clean cloth in cleaning eyes.

“Eyes are very sensitive, like your body has blood pressure, the eyes have pressure as well. It’s good to maintain hygiene while handling eyes.” Advised Singh.

He noted that cases of cataracts are common despite old age playing a role in this. Other health conditions like diabetes can lead to such conditions which can lead to blindness that is not treated.

“That is why we are checking on blood pressure and also doing diabetes screening to all our patients as required by the ministry of health. We have organized for specialized treatments where necessary and we are taking contact for a follow up after two weeks.” revealed Singh

During the reach out exercise at Jumbo Steel mills, over 30 patients were transferred to Lion Medical Centre for special treatments.

Addressing residents, area Chief Rabai location, Antony Jao, called on more efforts to help the community who cannot afford to pay for eye treatments among other illnesses.

Jao urged investors and other stakeholders to consider having similar reach out activities within Rabai calling on Jumbo Still management to have the exercise periodically.

“You have come in large numbers despite being on a Sunday, this is a reflection that we need this service and I trust some have gone for church services. I will be visiting the Lion Club Mombasa to request for another outreach soon.” Said Jao

However, Jumbo Steel Mill ltd manager, Govindbhai Patel, assured Rabai residents the exercise was just one of the much-planned community social responsibility activities.

“We have been in Rabai for about seven years and we appreciate their hospitality and we will be rolling out more CSR activities as a way of giving back to the community.
