    Kenya’s Diani Beach crowned Africa’s Leading Beach Destination for the eighth time

    Diani Beach in Kwale County has once again put Kenya on the global stage, securing its eighth consecutive title as Africa’s Leading Beach Destination in the World Travel Awards 2024.
    Known for its pristine white sands, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and breathtaking sunsets, Diani Beach continues to solidify its status as one of the world’s top beach destinations, outshining other competitors across Africa.
    In addition to Diani’s accolade, several other prestigious awards were won by local resorts.
    Diamonds Leisure Beach and Golf Resort was named Africa’s Leading Resort, while Chale Island took home the title of Africa’s Leading Private Island Resort.
    Swahili Beach Resort was honored as Africa’s Leading Beach Resort, Leopard Beach Resort was recognized as Africa’s Leading Hotel Residence, and Baobab Beach Resort was named Africa’s Leading Family Resort.
    The awards were celebrated during a vibrant gala night held in Diani, Kwale County, further cementing the region’s status as a premier destination for luxury and relaxation.
    During her speech, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani attributed the victory to the county government’s strong commitment to preserving and promoting the region as a top tourism destination.

    Achani said that her administration has been focused on improving infrastructure and enhancing security to attract more investors and boost tourism activities in the region.
    “Our efforts in bettering Kwale have been instrumental in maintaining Diani Beach’s status as a leading global destination,” she said.
    Achani said the county has constructed beach access roads, installation of street lighting and collaboration with various agencies to enhance security along the beaches.
    The governor also noted the construction and completion of the Dongo-Kundu Bypass and expansion of the Diani airstrip both of which have greatly contributed to opening up the region and boosting its appeal to tourists and investors.
    Achani revealed that further development projects are in the pipeline to ensure that Diani and other parts of Kwale County continue to attract tourists and investors.
    She mentioned that her administration is committed to enhancing the region’s appeal through strategic investments in infrastructure, environmental conservation, and tourism services.
    Achani said the upcoming projects aim to diversify the county’s tourism offerings, making it not only a beach destination but also a cultural and eco-tourism hotspot.
    She reaffirmed her government’s focus on sustainable tourism development, ensuring that growth in the sector benefits the local community while preserving the county’s natural beauty.
    Achani called for more partnerships with the private sector to promote responsible tourism practices that protect the environment and cultural heritage.

    He noted that the award ceremony not only celebrates the accolades but also marks the remarkable achievements of the travel and tourism sector, showcasing the passion, resilience, and innovation that define the industry.
    Cook stressed on the importance of collective efforts required to continue driving growth and elevating the global travel industry, particularly in Africa.
    He added that the World Travel Awards serve as a reminder of the shared responsibility to sustain momentum and push the boundaries of excellence in the tourism sector.
    Cook said as Diamonds Leisure, they are committed to offering not just a destination but an experience that captivates the senses and leaves lasting memories.
    He also extended his gratitude to various partners for their support in creating employment opportunities, fostering development, and attracting investors through tourism activities.
    “I acknowledge that the success of the hospitality and tourism sector is a collaborative effort, with key stakeholders playing a vital role in driving economic growth and enhancing the region’s appeal,” he said.
    Cook said the partnerships have been instrumental in not only boosting the local economy but also ensuring that the region remains a premier destination for both leisure and investment.
