Mombasa county governor, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has pledged to support the tea sector.

The county’s strategic position in the coastline plays a pivotal role in the handling of tea that has its warehouses located in Mombasa where storage and tea mixing is done before transportation.

During the conclusion of the induction workshop of the newly elected directors in Mombasa, Abdulswamad called for the investment in technology like the drones that will help ensure fertilizers are fully optimized when used in the farms.

“Climate technology can be of aid to the production of good quality tea,” said Abdulswamad .
He further asked the national government to reduce taxation on packaging materials that will in return reduce the cost of production.

The county government of Mombasa will soon be launching a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) that will have a multi-user tea mixing facility.

The governor said that the move  will help the tea industry attract incentives that will enable them to compete with other countries in the world. Abdulswamad termed the move as the beginning of a bright future in the tea industry.
