Police in Likoni, Mombasa County, have apprehended eight suspects believed to be members of a notorious criminal gang known as Team Sixty Nine.

The arrests occurred at Ujamaa within Likoni sub-county during a routine patrol conducted by officers from Inuka Police Station.

The operation, aimed at bolstering public safety and security, was confirmed by the area Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Jesse Okiru.

Among those taken into custody were Hamis Abdallah, Salim Ali, Hamisi Mwangome, Hamadi Suleiman, and Majaliwa Omar. The suspects were allegedly plotting to attack residents ahead of Christmas celebrations.

During the operation, police recovered two pangas and a quantity of marijuana. The suspects were disarmed and are currently in custody as investigations continue.

In an official statement, OCS Jesse Okiru revealed that the suspects face multiple charges, including theft, robbery, assault, possession of prohibited substances, and attempted criminal activities.

Okiru reaffirmed the police’s dedication to safeguarding residents and upholding law and order.

He added that police remain committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure festive season for all

“These arrests send a clear message that no criminal activities will be tolerated during the festive season or beyond,” she said.

She further stated that security patrols have been intensified, and community engagement has been increased to curb crime during festive season.

Okiru also urged residents to report any suspicious activities or provide information that could assist the police in preventing insecurity and apprehending criminals.
