Thousands of Likoni residents in Mombasa County who have waited for decades are set to receive title deeds before the end of December.
The new development comes after a public baraza on Tuesday, November 3 , 2026 that announced the start of a planning and survey exercise in Shika Adabu Ward.
The barazas were held at Tulia Moyo Grounds in Shonda and at Mwaweche Grounds.
The exercise, a joint effort between the County and National government, begins on 4th November and is expected to end before the close of the month.
The survey will cover about 24 villages, which include Ujamaa Road towards Inuka Police Station, Shonda and Shika Adabu among others.
Mombasa county Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir said the process is in advanced stages, with 11,000 title deeds expected to be processed across Likoni through cooperation between the County Ardhi Fund and the State Department of Lands.
"For families who have waited years for proof of ownership, a title deed means they can invest in their homes with confidence and pass them on to their children," Nassir said.
He assured residents they would be kept informed until the process is complete.
County Lands Executive Mohamed Amadoh said the County Government remains committed to ensuring title deeds reach their rightful owners and bringing long-overdue peace of mind to families who have called the land home for generations.
He said the exercise follows a planning meeting between county officers and National Government settlement officers, as part of efforts to resolve longstanding land tenure challenges.
Amadoh urged residents to cooperate with the authorities and avoid misinformation or political manipulation surrounding the exercise.
Area MCA Hon. Juma Mwalimu Kambi thanked the governor for visiting Shonda and Mwaweche.
He urged the residents to avoid manipulation that would lead to the selling of their long fought plots of land.
A resident and village elder in Shonda Abel Mulama welcomed the initiative citing it a milestone achievement.
"We have lived on this land for decades without title deeds. I thank the governor and the national government for recognizing our existence and helping us recover our ancestral lands.’’ he said.
