The August 9 general election ended with a lot of casualties, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) bearing the brunt of voters’ punishment after sending home several Kwale county MPs and MCAs.

Two terms Lungalunga MP Khatib Mwashetani vying on UDA was the first casualty in when he was sent packing by a new comer in politics and a teacher Chiforomodo Mangale of United Democratic Movement (UDM)

Chiforomodo garnered 15,267 votes as Mwashetani trailed him with 9,585 votes.

Mwashetani has not yet conceded defeat.

In Kinango constituency, incumbent MP Benjamin Tayari of UDA was shown the door alongside county women representative Zuleikha Juma of ODM when they were floored by Samuel Gonzi Rai of Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) who made a shocking comeback after being sent parking in 2017 by Tayari.

    Gonzi garnered 16,331 votes against Tayari’s 13,025 votes and Zuleikha’s 8,964 votes.

While Tayari conceded defeat Zuleikha has claimed that the election was not free and fair.

“I wish to notify you that our attempt to represent the great people of Kinango has not been successful. I have headed to the voice of the people which they have exercised through their votes. Henceforth I will take up other roles in the society,” said Tayari.

Zuleikha claimed that the Kinango constituency results for MPs and other positions did not represent the will of Kinango residents as announced by IEBC officials.

In Matuga incumbent MP Kassim Tandaza retained his seat on ANC ticket by trouncing his competitors after garnering 17,841 votes against Ramadhan Bungale of UDM with 9,136 votes and ODM’s Hassan Mwanyoha with 7,842 votes.

Mwanyoha has not conceded defeat and instead claimed that the election was marred with malpractices.

In Msambweni UDA’s MP Feisal Bader retained his seat after garnering 22,559 votes against his competitor Ali Mwakulonda of ODM with 13,185 votes.

Feisal was elected in 2020 by-election after the demise of ODM MP Suleiman Dori.

Others who were floored in the just concluded election include PAA MCA candidates Mweruphe Ndoro in Mkongani ward, Patrick Mangale in Dzombo ward, Raia Mkungu in Ramisi ward, Juma Masoud in Ndavaya ward.

Also Amani National Congress’ (ANC) incumbent MCA Mwinyi Mwasera was sent packing in Waa-Ng’omben ward  as Alfred Bavu of ODM faced the same music.
