Vanga residents have every reason to smile after the commissioning of the Mlalo water pan project  by Kwale Governor  Fatuma Achani.

Locals will have access to water services as the water pan is designed to enhance water storage capacity, ensuring a reliable supply for domestic use, irrigation, and livestock during dry seasons as well as mitigate the effects of drought.

The project dubbed FLLoCA is funded through a combination of national treasury and county government efforts through the Department of Lands, Environment and Natural resources.

Governor Fatuma Achani highlighted the importance of the project saying that lack of water has been a significant challenge for residents while reaffirming her commitment to providing clean and safe water for both domestic use and irrigation purposes.

” The main problem facing our people today is lack of water, I assure all Kwale residents that we will allocate resources to mitigate this issue through construction of dams, water pan and digging boreholes among other measures “, said Governor Achani.

Achani said that the  initiative is part of a broader water security strategy to enhance sustainable water management in Kwale.

Vanga ward MCA Yusuf Mbwana echoed the Governor’s sentiments and pledged his support for the project.

Residents who spoke during the event led by Nadzua Ndegwa appreciated the effort saying that locals and livestock will have improved access to clean water by reducing long distances traveled in search of water.

In the long run once complete, farmers will benefit from increased irrigation opportunities, boosting agricultural productivity and additionally, livestock will have a stable water source, improving their health and productivity, which will positively impact local livelihoods.

The project is slated for completion in three months, promising to bring much-needed relief to the residents of Vanga Ward.

Governor Achani’s ongoing efforts to improve water access in Kwale County has been witnessed in recent weeks, having presided over the groundbreaking of the Mgolokoloni Water Pan Project and launched the rehabilitation of the Sagalato water pan and Bofu dam water projects.
