Five people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident along the Nakuru–Eldoret Highway after a Nissan matatu hit a stationery trailer at the notorious twins bridge black spot.
The accident occurred at around 4 Am with initial reports indicating that the Eldoret bound matatu belonging to Kapsowar Sacco was heading to Eldoret from Nairobi where occupants had attended the Administration Police Pass out parade.
Area Base Commander Willy Lagat confirmed the incident saying investigations has been launched to establish the exact cause of the crash.
Lagat urged motorists using the busy highway to observe lane discipline and exercise extra caution as they negotiate the route especially at night
“The foggy weather conditions have significantly reduced visibility, and motorists should drive carefully and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid such tragedies,” he said.
Eight occupants who survived the crash were rushed to Londiani sub county hospital and later transferred to Nakuru level five hospital with various degrees of injuries
The wreckage of the Nissan matatu was towed to Mau Summit Police Station while bodies of the deceased were taken to the Londiani Hospital mortuary.
