In a significant move to boost education and sports in Kwale County,  Kwale governor Fatuma Achani, alongside her Deputy H.E. Chirema Kombo presided over the issuance of bursary cheques worth Ksh. 1.88 million to university students, and the provision of driving course sponsorships to 105 boda boda operators from Ukunda Ward.

The bursaries is part of the county’s ongoing commitment to education under the ‘Elimu Ni Sasa’ initiative that is expected to provide much-needed financial support to students pursuing higher education.

The initiative, praised by many, has already contributed significantly to improving the education standards in Kwale County.

In addition to the bursaries,  Achani also unveiled sports equipment worth Ksh. 2 million for SS Assad Football Club. The new gear, which includes soccer balls, jerseys, and various training kits, is set to enhance the club’s performance and encourage youth participation in sports across the county.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fatuma Achani called on the residents of Kwale to continue supporting the county leadership, and emphasized the importance of unity in driving development.

She urged critics not to politicize development issues but instead work collaboratively with the county government to address challenges and streamline initiatives that benefit the community.

“We must focus on what brings us together and work hand in hand to ensure that Kwale continues on the path of progress,” the Governor stated.

Her sentiments were  echoed by Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo, who highlighted the transformative impact of the ‘Elimu Ni Sasa’ bursary initiative.

“Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our youth, and this initiative has already made a significant difference in the lives of many students in Kwale,” the Deputy Governor remarked.

The event was also attended by local leaders, community members, and the beneficiaries of the bursary program, who expressed their gratitude to the county government for its ongoing support.
