I won’t accept laziness, Governor Achani warns contractorsย

Kwale governor Fatuma Achani has emphasized various contractors in the region to consider delivering quality work and up to the county standards.

Achani said substandard work would be unacceptable adding that the county has heavily invested in them and taxpayers’ money must be accountable.

She warned that any contractor who produces shoddy work risks being terminated and blacklisted from doing any county undertakings.

“There is no bargain to quality work, you must do what it takes to meet our expectations,” she said.

Since Achani took an oath of office last year, she has been rushing to complete and commission new projects across the county.

The projects include access roads, construction of ECDEs, health facilities, and boreholes among others.

Achani said residents are expecting massive development and the projects would support economic growth and improve the lives of the Kwale people.

She said the water projects are aimed at harnessing drought, increasing the supply of water and spearheading agricultural activities.

Achani added that roads and health dispensaries are focused on bringing services closer to common citizens, and enhancing equal rural-urban development.

Achani told the contractors to ensure that the projects are completed within the given time.

The governor said her administration won’t tolerate contractors who drag their feet in finishing county projects.

“I won’t entertain laxity, you applied for the tender knowing you can deliver then you should do so,” she said.

Achani said she is committed to seeing Kwale residents receive the required development on time and be relieved from the burden of trekking for long distances seeking crucial services.

The county chief said she will be inspecting the projects to ensure they are perfectly completed and start benefiting locals soon enough.

In January, Achani also put on notice chief officers who unfairly awarded themselves county tenders and deny other qualified citizens opportunities.

Achani said she will run her administration transparently and fairly and include everyone on board for equal development.

The governor said she doesn’t want to see a scenario where a multimillion project has stalled because of the contractor’s laziness.

She said the Kwale government has a good history of paying the contractors well and on time and she expects nothing but quality work.

The first coastal female governor also urged contractors to consider employing local citizens.

She said there are cases where people are ferried from other regions to do local work that can be done by nearby residents.

Achani said the county targets to provide employment opportunities to local people and should be prioritized.

She underscored the need for the contractors to pay their casual laborers handsomely.

The second Kwale governor asked jealously to protect government development projects and utilize them to improve lives.
