Daniel Muasya Musembi, a boy who scored a strong mean grade of A plain in Kwale High School wants to be a doctor.

He is the top student in Kwale and among the best candidates in the coastal region to have produced a strong A of 84 points.

Musembi scored clean A’s in all the subjects to become a student of the year in Kwale.

Musembi said he would like to join the University of Nairobi and pursue his medical career.

The enthusiastic young man said he developed a passion for the medical field because of the urge to save lives and give back to the community who can’t access proper health services.

“I want to be a doctor so that I can contribute something to my community and the health sector,” he said.

Musembi said the KCSE results surpassed his expectations and came as a huge shock.

The young man said he expected a weak grade A but God has been great to him.

He said things were tough but through hard work, he eventually crossed all the hurdles and became victorious.

Musembi said at some point in his four-year journey he lost hope due to poor grades but toughened up and pushed through.

He said he used to burn the midnight oil with one goal in mind, to become successful.

“When I was in form two, my performance was bad and I doubted myself but I didn’t give up,” he said.

Musembi said through the support of parents and teachers he was able to learn his weaknesses and improve academically.

He said his success is not a one-man effort but consists of many people who played different key roles.

Musembi said he is glad that both teachers and parents provided much-needed support for him to excel.

He said in school they also lived like brothers and embraced teamwork.

Musembi is the firstborn in his family and resides in Mombasa.

He said he is always a God-fearing person and a factor that contributed to his good performance.

His mother Eunice Musila described Musembi as a disciplined and joyful child.

She said her son has been working hard since his childhood and knew the value of education.

Musila said Musembi is a self-driven person and works under minimal supervision.

“He is a good son, the one who doesn’t wait to be told but knows what is to be done at the correct time,” she said.

Musila hailed the teachers for their dedication to the teaching profession and for taking care of her son while in school.

She said the credit goes to everyone because it took a collective effort to raise her son.

Musila said Musembi has the family proud and wishes well for her firstborn.

She said her son has set the pace for the rest of his siblings and will always emulate him.

The school’s chief Principal Michael Mutua also praised Musembi and said Musembi was a disciplined and honest boy.

Mutua said Musembi had the zeal to work hard and improve his performance.

The principal said the boy had a clean record and spent most of his time reading.

Musembi was followed by Bakari Nyondo and Brian Mumo who scored A with 81 points respectively.

    The school also had 24 A-, 87 B+, 114 B, 88 B-, 27 C+, and 3C scoring a mean score of 8.979 and a mean grade of B higher than that of last year’s mean score of 8.395 and a mean grade of B-.

At least a total of 343 candidates sat for the 2023 KCSE examinations in Kwale High School. It is a national school located in the Matuga sub-county.

According to Mutua, God has been faithful to them to keep their dream of becoming the best school alive.

“God above all, in as much as we worked hard He is to be praised,” he said.

Mutua also congratulated the students for giving their best to bring glory and make both the school and parents happy.

The principal said the students were very disciplined and focused on their education.

Mutua also hailed the county bursary program of Elimu Ni Sasa for being supportive in ensuring students get quality education.

He said the bursary program played a key role in keeping learning activities uninterrupted and that every student gets a fair opportunity for education.

    Matiga Girls, also a National School in kwale came second with 5 A-, 17 B+, 38 B, 76B-, 50 C+, 35C, 9C-, 1D+ and I D.

They scored a mean score of 7.703 a slight improvement from last year’s mean score of 7.38.
