Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, Lee Kinyanjui, has called on political leaders to shield the country’s investment climate from domestic political disputes, saying investor confidence is critical to economic growth and job creation.
Speaking during an investment review visit to the Dongo Kundu special economic zone and vipingo special economic zone, CS Kinyanjui said Kenya’s investor-friendly policies continue to attract capital from across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
He warned that political statements capable of undermining investor confidence could jeopardize opportunities that benefit all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation.
At the same time, the special economic zones Authority CEO Kenneth Chelule pointed out the unified collaboration between government agencies to work closely and effortlessly to facilitate investments to progress smoothly with investors enjoying the services they need.
Kinyajui also linked investor confidence to the country’s tourism sector, noting that two chartered Boeing Dreamliner aircraft carrying hundreds of European tourists recently landed at Moi International
Airport, describing it as a sign of growing international confidence in Kenya.
Kinyanjui said the Taifa Gas project will enable Kenya to store and refill liquefied petroleum gas locally, eliminating the need to transport gas to neighboring countries for processing.
The facility is expected to handle nearly 30,000 metric tonnes of LPG for both the domestic and regional markets.
He said he project is on course for completion within the next three to four months, with commissioning expected later this year.
