Melyne Achieng’ might not be the best student in the region but her tremendous performance in the 2024 KCSE examination is worth to be celebrated.

The 19-year-old defied odds to score an impressive A- (76 points) at Matuga Girls National School in Kwale County.
Acheng’s educational journey was far from smooth, marred by persistent financial struggles that often left her sent home due to unpaid school fees, disrupting her academic progress.
She spent more time at home than in school due to her financial struggles.
Yet, despite the overwhelming challenges, Achieng’, displayed remarkable resilience and determination, achieving a grade that many students with uninterrupted schooling could only dream of attaining.
She never let those setbacks extinguish her determination to succeed.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Achieng’ narrated her inspiring journey of perseverance, revealing how she remained steadfast and burned the midnight oil to study, whether at school or at home.
“It was a tough journey for me, but I kept holding on to the hope that I would overcome whatever challenges came my way,” she said, her voice trembling as she fought back tears.
Raised by a single mother after her parents separated, Achieng’ admitted that life was far from easy.
At one point, Achieng’ feared she might not complete her secondary education due to the financial challenges she faced.
The weight of financial and emotional struggles often bore heavily on her, but she refused to let her circumstances define her future.
Achieng’ revealed that she relied on a well-structured study timetable, which she followed diligently to keep her dreams alive.
She added that to achieve anything meaningful, one must be disciplined and consistent.
Achieng’ said that it was in Form Three when she finally found a sponsor who stepped in to support her education, allowing her to stay in school.
Grateful for the opportunity, she resolved to make the most of it, working tirelessly to catch up on the time she had lost.
Achieng’ said that she worked hard to balance her subjects, ensuring she put in the effort required to achieve strong results.

She aspires to pursue a career in medicine, with the goal of becoming a gynecologist.
She said that her passion for medicine stems from her mother’s struggles, and she hopes to help others navigate the challenges her mother faced.
Achieng’ added that her personal experience has fueled her desire to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of her community.
