Bible Translation & Literacy East Africa Today were delighted to have hosted Governor of Kwale H.E. Fatuma Achani and her Deputy H.E. Chirema Kombo during the officially launch of the Mother Tongue Book Program for the indigenous languages at the Kwale County Stadium, in Tsimba Golini ward, Matuga Sub County.
The mother tongue translation of primary school books program for indigenous languages which are; Chidigo, Chiduruma and pokomo is sponsored by Bible Translation & Literacy (BTL) East Africa.
Main objective of the program by BTL is translating primary school books in Chiduruma, Chidigo and Pokomo languages as a way of promoting and preserving local community languages in the modern curriculum.
Speaking at the event immediately after the launch, Fatuma Achani commended the good job so far done by BTL in translating primary school books for grade one, two and three.
“This is a great gesture that you have shown to the society for translating grade one, two and three books to be learned by pupils in our modern curriculum”, said Achani.
She also congratulated the Bible Translation & Literacy East Africa together with the donors led by National Director Rev. Peter Munguti for the good job they are doing.
Achani said that her administration will continue supporting education matters across the county so as to see our children get quality education.
On his side, Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo also acknowledged the efforts by BTL in making sure local languages are preserved in the modern curriculum in our schools. He termed the idea as one of the best mechanism in supporting indigenous langues from fading in the tongues of young ones in school.
The two leaders of our county their statements were echoed by the BTL National Director Rev. Peter Munguti said that the program which started by translating bibles has now come to primary schools and will later be rolled to all ECDE centers in Kwale. He said that BTL will continue working hand in hand with the County Government of Kwale in uplifting the levels of education in the County.
Present were; Lunga Lunga Member of Parliament Mangale, Chiforomodo, Bishop Peter Mwero, Political Advisor Mshenga Ruga and Economic Advisor Antony Yama.
