A newborn baby was discovered abandoned in a garbage pit at Sofia, Maji Safi area, early morning on the 1st of January.
The infant, rescued while still attached to her placenta was spotted by a child who had gone to dispose of household waste.
It was noticed that the baby had been left in the garbage pit for at least 12 hours overnight before being discovered in the morning according to medical report.
Eyewitnesses described the baby’s condition as critical at the time of the rescue.
She was immediately rushed to Manyatta Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Speaking to the witness, Fatuma Boi who rescued the baby, described the scene as “heartbreaking and horrifying.”
She expressed gratitude that the baby was found in time to receive life-saving intervention.
The deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Maji Safi Police Station confirmed that the child was now in stable condition.
“We are relieved that the baby is now safe and under medical care. Abandoning a child in such a manner is not only illegal but also deeply inhumane,” he said.
