Three students from Lamu County who excelled in 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations were airlifted from Manda Airport after receiving a fully funded scholarship by KDF in collaboration with local administration. Lamu County Government has announced plans to construct a Ksh100 million cotton ginnery. The project which is a partnership of the County government and Thika Cloth Mills, will be set at Mpeketoni as part of the government’s plan to revive cotton farming. “The ginnery will be set up in partnership with Thika Cloth Mills at Mpeketoni and is expected to have an output capacity to process 20,000 metric tonnes of cotton fibre annually”, said Governor Timamy. Through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund, Masito said that the relief food targets disabled, widows and orphans selected from drought prone areas of Kinango,LungaLunga and some parts of Matuga. Kwale County has estimated about 200,000 locals facing starvation due to prolonged drought according to the National Drought Management Authority. Kilifi county governor Gideon Mung’aro has raised concern over misappropriation of public funds at Matsangoni Emergency Operation Center within Kilifi North and directed blacklisting of the contractor responsible. “I made an impromptu visit to the Emergency Operation Center hosted at Matsangoni Kilifi North sub-county office hosting all departments. The event attracted competitors from all over Kenya with a count of 133 shooters drawn from various clubs and discipline forces. Johnson Chengo Environmental activist in Kilifi County has faulted the decision by the state and County government of Kilifi that allowed the approoting and exporting of baobab trees to foreign countries. Gro With Us founder, Kelly Banda referred to the trend as biopiracy, citing that it has a negative impact on the environment, especially Kilifi which is already grappling with severe drought.
