The construction of Taifa Gas storage facility designed to handle significant volumes of LPG, with plans for a 30,000 to 45,000 metric tonne capacity is at 80 per cent and is expected to be launched by president William Ruto by March 2026.

This was revealed by Principal Secretary for Investment Promotion Abubakar Hassan Abubakar who was accompanied by Special Economic Zones Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr.Kenneth Chelule during a site visit.

The project began in 2023 after launching by president Ruto sitting on a 30 acres’ land, Abubakar said that 150 jobs were created during the construction period with others 120 expected during operation.

He said that president William Ruto’s agenda of moving from dirty cooking to clean cooking through LPG is being materialized.

Abubakar noted that increased gas price was due to lack of storage with the project expected to further reduce the price of gas in the country.

Currently the country can only accommodate a storage of 35,000 metric tons of gas while the Taifa gas project will double the current storage.

Mombasa Dongo-kundu special economic zone, he said is now open with the first investor doing its final touches on the gas storage project and another one doing ground breaking for bottle glass for the pharmaceutical.

He said that by 2027 the zone will be fully utilized.

Taifa gas construction manager Antony Musyoka said that they are keen to provide affordable gas in the country with the project going on well.

Special Economic Zones Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr.Kenneth Chelule Chelule said that the government is keen on ensuring the zones get investors who are not only creating jobs for the population but also friendly to the ecosystem with construction of berths meant to be used by the special economic zones investors going on three months after it begun.

Meanwhile, work at the Special economic zone to have its berths for investors interested to put up plants in the area is going on well three months after construction began.
